  1. A Marvel in Stone:

    • The Shrine of the Grotto of the Redemption is often hailed as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”
    • Located in West Bend, Iowa, this religious shrine is a conglomeration of nine separate grottos that depict scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.
    • What makes it truly extraordinary is its vast collection of minerals, petrifications, and precious stones – believed to be the largest grotto in the world.
  2. Father Paul Matthias Dobberstein:

    • The visionary behind this awe-inspiring creation was Father Paul Matthias Dobberstein, born in Rosenfeld, Germany, in 1872.
    • Father Dobberstein immigrated to America and prepared for the priesthood at St. Francis Seminary near Milwaukee.
    • His artistic abilities set him apart, and he would dedicate his life to sculpting this magnificent grotto.
  3. The Grotto’s Composition:

    • Each of the nine grottos portrays a different scene from Christ’s life.
    • These scenes are meticulously crafted using an array of stones, gems, and minerals.

  4. Historical Significance:
