Brucemore: A 19th century mansion with a rich history

Brucemore is a 19th century mansion located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was built by Caroline Sinclair, a widow who wanted to create a country home for her six children. The mansion was completed in 1884 and is now a National Historic Landmark.

Brucemore is a beautiful example of Queen Anne architecture. It is made of red brick and has a slate roof. The mansion has 26 rooms, including a ballroom, library, and music room. The grounds of Brucemore are also impressive. They include a formal garden, a conservatory, and a carriage house.

Villisca Ax Murder House

The Josiah B. and Sara Moore House, located in Villisca, Iowa, gained infamy in June 1912 when it became the site of a brutal and unsolved murder. On a seemingly pleasant summer night, eight unsuspecting victims—six of them children—were bludgeoned to death as they slept following a church service. The gruesome crime left the small town in shock and disbelief.
